Yarn Hoarder?

Yarn Hoarder?

Hiya folks!

My posting on this site has been a long time coming but hopefully you’ve been keeping up to date on my crafting through my Facebook page.  You’ll be able to see that I haven’t been idle while I’ve been slacking in my writing duties!

How do I update you on what I’ve been doing?  Well, I’m going to start off slowly.  To begin with, this has been me lately…

W1Yyv7v

Who needs treasures and gems when you have yarn?  I recently placed a yarn order that arrived at the end of last week.  There were so many pretties in the box and I cannot wait until I figure out what to make with it!26736 26433 26702 26725

Aren’t those amazing colours?  They look even better in person!  Add these to the awesome yarn presents that I got for Christmas and I’m a very spoiled person!

Since I’ve been away from this blog, I’ve learned many things.  I’ve made my first pair of fingerless mitts.  I’ve started knitting my very first sweater.  I’ve made several shawls, as well as cowls and now headbands!  And that’s just with my knitting.  I’m still making plenty of cards inbetween.

I will end this now and start to plan my future posts.  I also have two cowls (one for me, one commission), birthday cards and a sweater to be working on!

Be back soon!

Forest City Comicon

Hiya folks!

Just a quick note today to let you know that I haven’t disappeared!  If you’ve been following my Facebook page, you’ll have seen lots of updates of items I made for my very first convention, Forest City Comicon!  It was a wonderful experience and I got to make so many new things for it!  New cards of super heroes, Yoshi, Star Trek and all sorts.  I also ventured into magnets which was super fun!  In the coming days, I’ll share with you a variety of the items that I made for sale at the con.  For now, you can see me and my set up there this past Sunday!

Stay tuned for more!

GenCon

GenCon

Hey folks!

If you read my Facebook post last week, you may have seen that I was away in Indianapolis at GenCon.  GenCon is a convention that it mostly about table top gaming but I am here to say that it’s not all about gaming!  My friends from Craft Hackers had a booth there this year and I wanted to show my support so we packed up the car and off we went!

Since I’m not the biggest table top gamer, I learned that there is so much fun to be had doing other activities!  So while Toni, Nicole and Marc were working at their awesome booth, I took it upon myself to fill up three whole days with crafting!!  And now I’m going to share that crafting with you, in all their stages of incomplete.  🙂

I started off my Thursday morning by learning how to crochet a gnome.  This being the first time I’ve crocheted in well over a two decades, I was a little slow on the uptake!  Here’s how far I got on mine.  The second is my friend’s gnome.  She managed to get hers done when we got home.  Isn’t he adorable?

After this crochet adventure, I made sure to check out Toni’s Craft Hacker booth, visited with my friends, Marc and Nicole, and drooled over everything they were selling.   I also played a game called Super Robo Rally where you move 1′ tall robots with remote controls on a game board and I just so happened to win with my Wall-E robot.  The husband and I also went on an Indy catacombs tour.

Finally, I ended Thursday with fairy painting!  It was so much fun, relaxing and a great way to finish off our first day at GenCon!

On Friday, I started my crafting day with a knitting class where I got the materials and pattern to make a kitten hat!  Truly the cutest thing!  Unfortunately, knitting is a little slow going so I didn’t get very far but we got to take all of our materials home with us and I promise to finish it!!  Really, I will!  This class was taught by Claire Knits!  Check out her other cute classes from GenCon.  You may even be able to see me in the class picture!

IMG_20140820_203728400_1200x674

Then we went to a chainmaille/scalemaille class where we made this beautiful firebird cuff.  This one I was committed to finishing in class, even if it killed me and finish I did!  Vanessa from Kali Butterfly was an awesome teacher and gave great one-on-one instruction.  A fantastic class and if I get to go to GenCon again, I will definitely take another of her classes!

IMG_20140820_203526014_506x900  IMG_20140820_203549890_1200x674  IMG_20140820_203534664_1200x674

Saturday was a full day from 9:00 am to midnight!  I started by making kitten mittens to match my kitten hat!  I got far enough on this one that you can see the little paw print!  Then I tried my hand at crocheting a hobbit hood.  Again, I didn’t get very far but you can see what it’s supposed to look like on the instruction page.  I also made a posable dragon bracelet (not displayed) and we finished the day with some serious chainmaille!  I probably should have known better than to try making a serpentine chainmaille necklace at 9:00 at night to midnight on our third day into the con but alas!  Sticking with my “usual”, I did not finish it!  But I did buy the pliers so I can keep going on it.

All in all, I am very happy with my first GenCon experience and the crafting classes were so much fun!  I hope you’ve enjoyed this little adventure into my three days at GenCon!

Phew…

Phew…

Good day everyone!

If you’ve been following my Facebook page, you may have seen that I had a bit of an accident involving my finger and a fabric rotary cutter.  Well, it meant a couple trips to the hospital and slowed my crafting down a little.  The silly finger stopped me from knitting full-stop for almost a month!  But in that time, I worked on other stuff that just NEEDED to be done!  The first of these projects being magnets.  I love magnets as the husband and the fridge will attest to.  I’m just so happy that I can now make my own and share my love of magnets with a few other people.  Freedom Clothing Collective will be carrying some of them (they even made the window display!!) and the majority will be coming with me to Forest City Comic Con in London this October.

Next, I finally managed to finish my Child’s Play cross-stitch square.  This patch along with several others will be made into a quilt that will be auctioned off at the Child’s Play dinner in the fall.  I was involved in this project a couple of years ago and happy to be involved again.  Last year, PopCap bought the quilt from the auction and it’s actually hanging in their office!  Amazing!!

Kirby Square - edit

I’m off to GenCon in Indianapolis for the next few days.  While most everyone else has days full of gaming planned, I will be crafting!  Surprise, surprise!  🙂  I’ll be learning how to crochet and even chainmaille!  How cool is that?

I hope you’re enjoying this wonderful summer weather we’ve been having and stay tuned for some super cute and geeky explosion boxes coming up next!

Summer is here!

Summer is here!

Summer is here and the sun is shining!  It is a beautiful day out today and I am inside getting my craft on!  🙂  But the sun is beaming through the windows and I’m a happy camper!  Plus, it’s Movie Marathon Day!  There’s nothing quite as relaxing as Movie Marathon Day!  😀

Today, I’m going to share some knitting with you!  If you’ve been following my facebook page, you should have seen the entire zoo I’ve been knitting.  Raccoons, bunnies and monkeys!  Oh my!  If you haven’t been following, you should go check them out.  They really are the cutest things and I can’t wait to get back to making them.

Inbetween my critter knitting, I’ve also started making shawls and I think I’ve found my passion!  They come together like magic and the wool is just so incredibly soft and smooth.  Here are my first and second.  Excuse the office chair photo shoot for the first one!  My next shawl is just waiting to be picked out!

Next I hope to share with you my finished cross-stitch for the upcoming Child’s Play charity quilt project!

Take care and enjoy these sun-shiny days while we have them!  😀

Did someone say custom?

Did someone say custom?

That’s right!  Despite being a bit behind in my posting duties as of late, I have not been idle!  I seem to have started making “custom” notecards and thank you cards for people, like you see below!

A few months ago, a woman at work asked me to make her dragonfly notecards with the phrase “A Note from…” on the front so that they were truly from her.  After making up a few samples, these are the ones she chose:

Messenger_5844433682051693073_13934215742037488_1200x900

13 cards of each later, she had her notecards!

IMG_20140311_212511_1200x900

Well, that seemed to spark a bit of a trend.  Not that I’m complaining!  Two other people decided they wanted their own cards too but these ones were thank you cards and they wanted each card to be different.  I haven’t delivered these yet so fingers crossed that they like them!

IMG_20140327_155121_1200x900 IMG_20140415_101504_1200x900

I’m pretty happy right now that I bought those stationary boxes just in case!!  It seemed that it worked out in my favour.

Well, the sun is finally shining and it almost feels like spring/summer.  I can’t wait!  But here I am this long weekend inside and crafting!  I may have to make a bit of time for a walk later but for now, I’m pretty content.  I hope you’re having a great long weekend too!

Happy Spring!

Happy Spring!

Well, you wouldn’t know it looking outside yesterday but it is spring and Easter is almost here!  Wanting a bit of pretty and brightness over the past couple of days (I was refusing to look out the window at the grey sky and falling snow), I thought I would post some of the Easter/Spring cards I made for this year!

FB_IMG_13962911664454807_1200x900 IMG_20140331_212226_1200x900 IMG_20140331_212241_1200x900 IMG_20140331_212254_1200x900 IMG_20140415_100524_1200x900 Messenger_5856157200386506448_13962166788197976_1200x900

Aren’t they just so cheerful?  And here is my “display” at work!

IMG_20140415_100538_1200x900

Some of the cards have already been stolen away but  don’t worry because if you like them, Freedom Clothing Collective does have them at the store, if you were so inclined to take a jaunt over there!  They have so many gorgeous sun-shiny items that you’ll forget all about the weather outside!

Stay warm!

Valentine’s Day Cards and Other!

Valentine’s Day Cards and Other!

Well, Valentines came just as fast as it does every year and every year I find myself unprepared.  You would think I’d learn my lesson and start making things right after Christmas!  But alas…what are holidays without a little procrastination and stress?  And because I can’t show you JUST one, I feel the need to show you ALL of the cards I made for Valentine’s Day.  Except one, anyway.  This year, I actually managed to make a special card for my special fella.  I’ll wait until Friday or this weekend to post that one, if in the very off chance that he checks my blog!  🙂

First of all, I’ll show you  my desk at work!  There’s a little bit of old and a little bit of new!  And a little bit of crackers in the background!  🙂

IMG_20140212_134620_1200x900

And here are some close-ups of the new cards.  I know, I know!  They are all very heart-y and pink and red but it’s what I had on hand.  I had a whole lot of fun with the herringbone technique this year and I have a whole bunch of those types of cards to show you in the coming weeks.

IMG_20140212_094151_1200x900 IMG_20140212_094127_1200x900 IMG_20140212_094058_1200x900 IMG_20140212_094002_1200x900 IMG_20140212_093945_1200x900 IMG_20140212_093925_1200x900 IMG_20140212_093912_1200x900  IMG_20140212_094229_1200x900 IMG_20140212_094214_1200x900

And to end off this already picture-intensive post, I also feel the need to show you a new knitted cute stuffed thing that I just finished at about 12:30 last night so that a friend would have it to give to her little girl for Friday!  I present to you the ever glamorous, 80s, punk-rock unicorn!  Gotta love that hair!

IMG_20140212_000200_1200x900

And a blue luchador to keep her company!

IMG_20140212_092833_1200x900

Anywoo, I’d best be puttering along!  I have a whole kitchen table worth of crafting mess to clean up!  You can check out my Facebook for a peak of the disaster that can only come with last minute crafting!

More of the Pretty Boxes

More of the Pretty Boxes

Happy February everyone!  Well, all the snow and cold weather has put me into a bit of a funk lately!  That’s not to say I haven’t been crafting though!  When I’m forced to go outside for, say, work, all I can think of is being back at home knitting away or making a card!

I have a couple of things to share with you today.  The first is the new collection of explosion boxes I made for Freedom Clothing Collective last week!!  Aren’t they just the cutest?  I tried to make some that could be a little Valentine’s Day-y if people wanted them to be.  Some pink, some hearts, but not overkill!

Explosion Boxes

So happy that this picture was posted on Facebook by Freedom because I didn’t get around to taking any pictures of these boxes before I delivered them!  I was so excited to get the boxes out to them that I completely forgot!

The second thing I’d like to show you are the most adorable Valentine’s Day treats!  Little boy and girl monsters!!  And just wait until next time when I show you the backs of them!  Literally, the backside of the monsters!  SUPER CUTE!

Cute Monsters

Finally, last time I referenced working on a super secret project…  Well, I can tell you that I’m involved in another cross-stitch book!  Not only did I stitch a piece that will be photographed for the book but this time, I actually designed a pattern for it as well!  I just can’t wait for it to come out!  We’re still a few months out on that but I’ll share it just as soon as I can!!  🙂

Keep warm!

All the pretty things…

All the pretty things…

Alright folks…I know I said I would be showing you some of my geeky projects for Anime North this week but I’ve been pulled away on a super secret project over the last week that has left me with no time to make things post worthy for you.

Instead, I’m going to tell you about my friend and Stampin’ Up demonstrator, Christyne Richardson.  I know I’ve mentioned her before and I’ll probably do so again!  🙂  Her site  (http://www.handstampedfromtheheart.ca/) is always an inspiration and you can find so many beautiful and fun projects on there.  She also holds monthly classes and I try my best to attend every single one.  You can never have too much crafting fun and motivation on a Saturday afternoon!

I have known Christyne for about 4 years and have been on her Stampin’ Up team for almost a year but it feels like I’ve known her forever!  We went to SU Convention together and she even took me to San Diego on the SU Weekend Getaway she earned!  I can’t say I was upset when her husband couldn’t go…  🙂  The fun we had going to the San Diego Zoo and to Old Town!

Just to give you a taste of the cards she makes for her class, here is a sampling from her most recent “One-Sheet Wonder” class.  It was worth the trip to Mississauga and more!

DSC01842_1200x900 DSC01839_1200x900 DSC01838_1200x900 DSC01836_1200x900 DSC01835_1200x900 DSC01834_1200x900 DSC01832_1200x900 DSC01845_1200x900

Are they so pretty?  I love them!  Trust me, they look more gorgeous in person!  I’ve learned so much from Christyne, so many techniques, so many different colour combinations, how to make the best use out of my Stampin’ Up supplies!

If you love seeing beautiful cards and amazing 3D paper items, you should be checking out her site!  Hurry now!  You may even see some fishy cards that are too adorable for words!

Until next time!!  (I may even be able to let you in on a bit of the super secret project then!!)
